Mod Post - Deadline for Challenge #1

Today is the deadline for the first diricawl_way challenge, and I must say that the turn out was a bit disappointing. So far there have only been six entrants.

The next challenge should be a bit more entertaining, so perhaps we'll get some more people participating. I'll also see about giving more time for it and perhaps advertising more also.

There aren't really even enough entries for much of a competition, so I think I'll make a banner or somesuch for everyone who's participated. Then you can say proudly someday that you were one of the few to do Diricawl Way's first challenge. :P

Also, I'm currently having issues with my internet connection. As in... it's not working. (I'm in the campus computer lab at present.) As such, I'm willing to extend the deadline for this current competition for a couple days if there are still people who want to enter it, but I won't be able to accept any of the entries as they're sent in until the issue is resolved.

I think for a first challange in a brand new community, 6 entries is very good :) and I think it'll improve as it goes on.

As for me, I have about a hundred things to do during this challange, but I'll sure make some time for the next one.

I hope you don't mind a suggestion, and you're free to ignore it if you want. I've never actually run a challenge community, so I'm really not sure how they work...

What if you tried making the submission time shorter? I only say that because I wonder if people saw the competition, decided they'd enter, but upon seeing that they had plenty of time, they eventually forgot about it...?

I know you want more time for as many people to enter right now, but you might try offering a shorter time span, with more challenges. Perhaps with more challenges, you'll generate a bit more interest.

I understand what you're saying, and I'll have ot give it some thought. I was offering what I thought was a decent amount of time because I know a lot of people are doing a lot of challenges right now - myself included.

I think compared to many of the other things going on right now, my first challenge wasn't much of an attention drawer. I'll see how things go after a couple more. I don't want people not participating because they don't think they can do it in time, either. Need a happy medium, I suppose.

*nods* Well, I'll still be around. I'll see if I can find more people to participate, too. Good luck with it!

I agree with the_ladys_opal above; I think that for a brand new community that didn't start until this first challenge, six entries is an accomplishment, considering the sheer number of communities that start out, get a few members, and then get maybe a couple or just no entries.

In response to the deadline debate above, I want to put in that I don't think we need quite as long as we were given, so it may be a good idea to shorten it, but you could always say that deadlines can be extended if needed, and encourage people to contact you if they'd like to participate but would have trouble with time constraints. *shrug*

Excellent thinking, Twilight. That's what I'd say.

I am also sure that the whole thing will grow. If you can come up with more ideas like this one, Chaoskirin, I'd say everything around here will evolve along with your good ideas. ^_^
And yes, advertisement is everything. Do you have a banner for that purpose?

Loved the first challenge and am eager for more. ;)
